Hajira and Andy had only met in passing throughout their time at medical school in Peoria, Illinois. Their first official meeting wasn’t until a mutual friend’s birthday party, where Andy was instantly charmed by Hajira’s confidence and poise, while Hajira was taken with Andy’s humor and intelligence.

Months passed and much changed. Hajira traded medical school for her Master’s in chemistry, embracing her passion for teaching. Meanwhile, Andy immersed himself in his pursuit of a career in pediatrics. They crossed paths again at a celebration marking Andy and his classmates' triumph over a board exam. Hajira challenged Andy to a game of giant Connect 4. It was a spirited battle that ended with Andy clinching victory 2-1.

Despite losing, Hajira’s relentless pursuit did not end there, and they had their first date watching a classic movie together. While The Departed may not scream romance to most, Hajira and Andy’s love story started with this Boston crime drama and a glass of cranberry juice.

Though their story started along the banks of the Illinois River, it was on the shores of Lake Michigan that their love truly set sail. Throughout their relationship, Andy imparted his excitement for seeing movies on Hajira, while she taught him the craft of sneaking breadsticks into the theater. Inevitably, their enthusiasm grew for each other’s passion - attending sparsely populated Magic City Hippies concerts and even more sparsely populated White Sox games.

They went on many adventures together and made it their mission to find the best (or worst) art museum wherever they travelled. However, they found their most memorable moments closer to home – from sweaty summer strolls up and down the 606 to cool autumn days reading at the Botanic Garden. They wholeheartedly dove into each other’s family traditions. Andy was a strong contender in Ahmed sibling game nights, and Hajira put her sleuthing skills to work in Bank family escape rooms.
